NAOOS Hosts First Edition of Másòyìnbó L’Ókè-Ògùn to Celebrate Yoruba Language and Culture

In a vibrant celebration of cultural heritage and linguistic pride, the National Association of Oke-Ogun Students (NAOOS), The Polytechnic Ibadan, successfully hosted the first edition of “Másòyìnbó L’Ókè-Ògùn”, a Yoruba language competition designed to showcase fluency, depth, and creativity in native expression.

Held at Fb Block, beside admission office at North Campus of The Polytechnic Ibadan on Tuesday, 17th of June, 2025, The theme of the event focused on “Showcasing Yoruba Speaking Prowess,” in line with NAOOS’s unwavering commitment to cultural awareness and education.
Participants engaged in a thrilling contest that featured Yoruba proverbs, translations, interpretations of word meanings, and live cultural demonstrations, putting their linguistic skills and heritage knowledge to the test.

The four outstanding contestants who took the stage were:

Durosinmi Ibraheem O.,Olaniyan Sulaimon O.,Adedapo Toheeb O. and Olaleye Christiana Omowunmi

These individuals captivated the audience with their eloquence, confidence, and understanding of the Yoruba language. Their efforts were rewarded with exciting prizes, including certificates of recognition, and other tokens of appreciation.

Speaking at the event, NAOOS President, Aare Adekunle Kowiyu Adeola, praised the contestants and attendees for bringing life to a vital cultural initiative. He said, “Másòyìnbó L’Ókè-Ògùn is more than just a competition — it’s a call to embrace our heritage and uplift our language.

Also in attendance was Ààrẹ Mogboyin Ridwan, President, Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), who commend the efforts of NAOOS Leadership for dedication to cultural promotion and students development

Attendees and guests hailed the event as a creative and impactful platform that should be sustained annually, with many expressing excitement about future editions.
